#55 – Great Big Greetings

Another card from the displays in the Hospitality Suite in Thailand.  It was on display, so I do not know the artist.  This was one of the first sets that caught my eye in the new catalog because the words are HUGE!!!  This card uses “Great Big Greetings” on pg. 67 of the catalog.  The BOLD words make a statement!  Who doesn’t need a card with this sentiment every now and then???  It is great, not just for birthdays, but also retirements, promotions, graduations, weight loss…you name it!!! The greetings in this set are fun and varied!

Thailand trip – Monday evening 7/10/17
Monday night was our scheduled shopping excursion to Patong Beach. There was about an hour and a half delay, because a crane jack-knifed in the road and our five tour buses had to wait until it was cleared.  I don’t think anyone was injured, it was just a matter of getting the crane out of the way of the very curvy two-lane road.

If you look at the picture above you can see McDonalds.  Above the restaurant, was a huge spa with lots of massage tables.  You have not lived until you have had a Thai massage.  Legitimate massage places are everywhere, including the beach and they are very reasonably priced. (Example:  $12 US for an hour long massage on the beach).  Heavenly!!!

Back to our shopping excursion, they had a fairly modern mall, Jungceylon, and then lots of little street shops which were great for souvenirs.

We had to stop by the Starbucks and pick up a Thailand mug.
Janessa humored me and we stopped to get a “fish pedicure.”  It tickled a bit, but it was great for exfoliating the dead skin from our feet.

There are “Spirit Houses” throughout Thailand.  The one shown above, was at the entrance of the mall.  Here is a bit of information about them from Wikipedia. 🙂  You see them in front of homes, businesses.

Spirit houses
spirit house is a shrine to the protective spirit of a place that is found in the Southeast Asian countries of BurmaCambodiaLaos, and Thailand.

Most houses and businesses have a spirit house placed in an auspicious spot, most often in a corner of the property. The location may be chosen after consultation with a Brahmin priest. The spirit house is normally in the form of a miniature house or temple, and is mounted on a pillar or on a dais.

The house is intended to provide a shelter for spirits that could cause problems for the people if not appeased. The shrines often include images of people and animals. Votive offerings are left at the house to propitiate the spirits. More elaborate installations include an altar for this purpose.

We stopped at Haagen Dazs for ice cream.

Fortune Cats (Maneki Neko) – It’s a talisman that is believed to attract good luck and fortune for its owners. Thus, it’s very common to find one on display in stores, restaurants and other businesses. This cat figurine was outside of the restaurant. Le Siam, where we had dinner.
Thai iced tea.  It had a more caramel taste, than the ones I have had in the US.
The heart at the top was a caramel ice cube.
Mango, sticky rice and coconut milk.  Best dessert!!!
The mall was very contemporary on the inside, a big contrast to the stores on the street outside.
Back to the hotel.  Here is a view of the main desk for check-in.  It is open to the outside.
Every night when we come back to our room, we have a pillow gift.
This night we received a waterproof case to protect our cell phones by the pool and the beach.
Also, our room candle would always be lit when we came back to our room each night.
